Red Pit Sand
Red pit sand is a locally sourced, multi-purpose sand characterized by its distinctive red colour, which is typically due to the presence of iron oxide in the soil from which it is excavated . This type of sand is commonly used in the UK for creating sand and cement mortar mixes that are well-suited for brickwork, ducting, and bedding applications . Its fine texture makes it ideal for projects where a smooth finish is desired in mortars, renders, and bricklaying . Red building sand is often screened to a size of around 5mm and may also be washed to remove.
